ECS Course Repeat Policy

In addition to the university's Undergraduate Course Repeat Policy, any Baylor student taking a course in the School of Engineering & Computer Science is also subject to the ECS Course Repeat Policy. As this policy has undergone some changes since Fall 2020, below are the different policies that apply according to a student's catalog year, which is based on their term of matriculation to Baylor.

ECS Course Repetition Policy (Catalog Years: Prior to Fall 2020)

Students taking a course in the School of Engineering & Computer Science will have a maximum of two attempts at any one course to reach a sufficient grade in order to fulfill a prerequisite or requirement for a degree, major, or minor. An earned grade or a “W” notation DOES NOT COUNT as an attempt. Additional attempts will not be granted except by permission from the student’s Dean (or his/her representative).

ECS Course Repetition Policy (Catalog Years: Fall 2020-Summer 2022)

Students taking a course in the School of Engineering & Computer Science will have a maximum of two attempts at any one course to reach a sufficient grade in order to fulfill a prerequisite or requirement for a degree, major, or minor. An earned grade or a “W” notation COUNTS as an attempt. Additional attempts will not be granted except by permission from the student’s Dean (or his/her representative).

ECS Course Repetition Policy (Catalog Years: Fall 2022-Present)

Students taking a course in the School of Engineering & Computer Science will have a maximum of two attempts of any one ECS course to fulfill a prerequisite or requirement for a degree, major, or minor. Students pursuing an ECS major are allowed a maximum of 4 unsuccessful attempts of courses required for the degree to continue in the major. An insufficient earned grade or receiving a “W” notation COUNTS an unsuccessful attempt. A course receiving a “W” notation for a semester in which the student withdraws from all courses is not counted as an unsuccessful attempt. Additional attempts will not be granted except by permission from the student’s Dean (or his/her representative).
