Dr. Mack Grady, professor of electrical and computer engineering, could not predict that his expertise in electrical power would lead to him being involved in science-fiction worthy research. However, that is exactly where he ended up when he found himself being recruited for national defense efforts against electromagnetic pulses (EMPs). 

While engineers understand the fundamentals of the way liquid fuel behaves inside an engine, a vast number of variables make it difficult to predict its efficiency. The interplay of small fuel droplets and air impacts the performance of a variety of combustion engines — and it is a factor that a Baylor ECS professor has received a substantial award to study.

After completing his undergraduate education at Baylor, Ryan Malone, BSME 2002, worked his way through the ranks at bp, currently serving as the head of Capital Projects for the U.S. Deepwater Gulf of Mexico and Canada business units. He serves as Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) for those business regions, helping steward key initiatives to increase value and cash flow, facilitation of agile techniques to his teams, the deployment of digital assets and oversight of initiatives to help lower the carbon footprint of bp in the United States. 

Marques Jones graduated from Baylor with a BSECE in 2019 and is now continuing his studies at the University by pursuing a master’s in electrical and computer engineering. Marques spent his summer of 2020 interning for SpaceX. As a follow up to the alumni video he shot as a recent graduate in the spring, Marcus discusses his internship experience over the summer, noting his preparedness for the work and his gratitude to have gained valuable hands-on technical experience and professional skills.
