The School of Engineering and Computer Science prepares students to succeed in the workplace while helping them understand how they can use their skills to improve their communities and share their faith throughout the world. These are exciting times for the School as we look to the future within the context of Baylor's academic strategic plan, Baylor in Deeds. Extend the Line: The Grisham Family Legacy
Gary and Barbara Grisham impact students through Endowed Scholarships
Gary established the Gary and Barbara Grisham Endowed Scholarship Fund in Engineering and Computer Science — a scholarship which initially would be funded through his estate, but which Gary later decided to fully fund in 2025 so that students would begin receiving support from the scholarship as soon as possible. This would be the legacy.
“It is not just one scholarship,” Gary said. “It is not just one student who will benefit. It will continue, one after the next after the next. What happens when a student who had my scholarship goes on to discover how to power cities without electricity, or solves the fusion power equation or does something spectacular? I have enough faith that even if I’m not around, I will still know. Baylor is the best place I can think of to have a scholarship like this — to find a Christian university that has a very high academic standard. It all came together in this special way.”
Gift Creates Chair in Cybersecurity at Baylor
$1.5 million gift from B. Todd and Amy Patterson of Richmond, Texas, establishing The Todd and Amy Patterson Endowed Chair in Cybersecurity to advance the School of Engineering and Computer Science’s research within the field of cybersecurity. The Pattersons also made an additional gift establishing The Patterson Family Dean’s Scholarship in Engineering and Computer Science to support students who have been designated as participants in The Dean’s Scholars Program.
“Through our firm’s internship for STEM students, I have seen firsthand the impact of the School of Engineering and Computer Science on some of the brightest minds of the future,” said Todd Patterson, practice head and managing partner of the Houston intellectual property law firm Patterson + Sheridan LLP. “Not only are the students scholastically gifted, but they are thought leaders who are motivated to make a difference in technology and for Christ. Amy and I are proud to support this Chair in Cybersecurity and are excited to see the School of Engineering and Computer Science’s continued impact on cutting-edge technologies.”
