Larry Weixel

  • Associate Fellow, Skunk Works Autonomy & Artificial Intelligence Production and Sustainment Lead, Lockheed Martin

Larry Weixel is a Senior Manager of Artificial Intelligence at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, where he leads the integration of artificial intelligence into mission-critical engineering and operational systems across development, flight test, production, and sustainment. His work focuses on scaling trusted AI in environments where decisions carry real operational, safety, and national defense consequences, while preserving engineering discipline and sound judgment.

Since joining Lockheed Martin in 1998, Larry has supported nine aircraft platforms, including the F-16, F-22, F-35, and C-130, across the full product lifecycle. This experience has shaped a leadership approach grounded in execution, discipline, and accountability in high-consequence environments.

Earlier in his career, Larry spent nearly a decade in the F-35 flight test program, leading aircraft diagnostics and predictive health efforts within one of the most complex aviation test environments ever fielded. He later led artificial intelligence transformation initiatives within Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. Across these roles, he has seen firsthand that the greatest risks rarely stem from technical limitations alone, but from failures in clarity, discipline, and stewardship. His work emphasizes repeatable methods for moving AI from prototype to trusted operational use.

In addition to delivery leadership, Larry has spent much of his career developing engineering talent. His work includes designing technical curricula, mentoring early-career engineers, partnering with universities to strengthen the pipeline from classroom learning to high-consequence engineering practice, and engaging K-12 students and educators to cultivate early interest in engineering and help prepare the future workforce. He has also been invited to deliver keynote and panel presentations on responsible AI, engineering rigor, and workforce readiness in safety-critical environments.

Larry is an Associate Fellow at Lockheed Martin and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Southern Methodist University. His connection to Baylor reflects a shared belief that engineering is not just a profession, but a responsibility and a calling that demand service, integrity, and care for the long-term consequences of our work. His wife, Elissa, is a Baylor graduate who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2005, and Larry was honored as a Baylor Alumnus by Choice in recognition of his sustained support of the university and its mission.

Originally from New Orleans, Larry lives in Aledo, Texas, with his wife and their two children, Aaron and Joy.
