Internship Experiences

December 10, 2024

“I created a Data Entry Tool to input and manage Carbon Capture and Storage data from the Gulf Coast. This tool improves the efficiency of business analysis and improves data quality for machine learning and data science efforts.

The ExxonMobil Internship program plans lots of fun activities for its interns. My favorite was a trip to the Houston Natural Sciences Museum!”

LUCY RAY, ExxonMobil

SENIOR, COMPUTER SCIENCE

“I had the opportunity to work on IBM watsonx. I started my own GenAI project, integrating cutting-edge AI technologies and research into a generative AI app. This experience allowed me to learn from some of the top experts in the field.

I learned how to be a software engineer despite being a data science major. I can work on my own now.”

PATRICK MOORHEAD, IBM

SENIOR, DATA SCIENCE

“I collected topographic data using real time kinematics on hundreds of thousands of acres out in Arizona, Nevada, and California for substations, solar fields, and other renewable related infrastructure. I also learned how to create control networks, process the data, and how to use it in CAD for the various projects I worked on. Baylor ECS has helped me develop my analysis and problem-solving skills, which proved to be worth more than gold in my position.”

JACKSON DAVIDSON, Westwood

SENIOR, ENGINEERING

“I helped manage the construction process of Activate Games, Top Golf Swing Suites, and various office buildouts. I sat in weekly client meetings, helped relay designs to subcontractors, and even fly to my project in Houston for more meetings! I gained so much knowledge and interest of the industry this summer and had so much fun doing it. My favorite part of my internship was the mentorship and work atmosphere.”

BIANCA TRISTAN, Arco Murray

JUNIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

“This summer was an incredible journey as a cybersecurity intern with the Global Cybersecurity Program Management team at Whirlpool Corporation! From becoming a certified Google Cloud Digital Leader to winning first place in an intern case competition, this experience has been nothing short of amazing. I had the unique opportunity to dive deep into the world of cybersecurity, especially within the manufacturing space, and it was eye-opening to see its real-world implications.”

MISTY KURIEN, Whirlpool Corp.

SENIOR, COMPUTER SCIENCE

“I now have professional experience in three distinct areas of cybersecurity: the SOC, Pentesting/Red Teaming, and Cyber Systems Design. And I love every part of it! This experience has reinforced why I chose this field in computer science. I got the opportunity to earn my Offensive Security Web Assessor certification, where I learned and implemented advanced techniques to hack websites.”

BRYANT HUANG, Cisco

SENIOR, COMPUTER SCIENCE

“My favorite part of my internship was the relationships I built with my team. They created a space where I felt comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and just being myself. I’m super thankful for the ECS Career Center's role in my journey—from resume reviews and mock interviews to the Professional Development class with Tom and Reina—they really boosted my confidence and helped me put my best foot forward.”

TAYLOR MARTINI, Lockheed Martin

JUNIOR, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

“I worked as a quality engineering intern on the Next Generation Jammer program at Raytheon in McKinney, Texas. I collaborated with the rest of the quality team to meet program requirements by performing root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions. I also interfaced with the mechanical team to make vital engineering drawing changes. I got to see two EA-18G Growler planes, which our program supported, and this gave a whole new meaning to the importance of the work we did to help the military and its warfighters.”

JAXON COTA, Raytheon Technologies

JUNIOR, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

"I worked on the Site Development team working on a few different subdivision projects! I drew water, wastewater, and storm lines and created plan and profile sheets to be used in construction. My favorite part was learning about the world of civil engineering and getting to visit a few construction sites."

LAINEY ROWSELL, BGE

JUNIOR, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AND MATH

“As an Engineering Intern, I utilized various applications to create mechanical and electrical construction designs. I also gained a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, engineering design, and construction. Finally, I had the opportunity to ask experts in the industry countless questions and learned a great deal from their experience. I loved meeting with many engineers and learning from their expertise.”

JONATHAN HUMPHRIES, BRANDT Companies

JUNIOR, ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
