Undergraduate Admission Process
Students desiring to enter the School of Engineering and Computer Science need only apply to the University. Once students have applied to the University and are accepted, they will be notified in their goBaylor portal.
The ECS Flowcharts serve as academic planners for all engineering and computer science degrees. Incoming students can utilize these flowcharts, as well as the Student Testing Services information and the Equivalent Course Tool to understand how their incoming credit will fulfill requirements of their selected major. All ECS majors will be assigned an Academic Advisor in the School of Engineering and Computer Science who they will be required to meet with once each semester. Academic Advisors will help students understand how their transfer credit applies beginning in the Orientation or Transfer advising appointment before the incoming student's first semester.
Application Process
- Submit an admission application to Baylor University by the stated deadlines.
- Select a first and second choice major on the application.
- Transfer applicants must have a minimum 3.0 Transfer GPA
- If admitted into the university, students will be notified in goBaylor.
- To continue in the Pre-Engineering major, students must demonstrate Calculus 1 Readiness prior to the start of their first semester at Baylor.
Pre-Engineering Program
Calculus 1 Readiness
The School of Engineering and Computer Science offers four engineering majors: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Engineering. Students who wish to pursue engineering at Baylor will be required to begin in the non-degree-granting Pre-Engineering major. Incoming Pre-Engineering majors must be eligible to register for MTH 1321 (Calculus 1) by meeting the prerequisite established by the Department of Mathematics. Credit or concurrent enrollment in MTH 1321 is required to enroll in EGR 1301 (Introduction to Engineering). Students who are unable to qualify for MTH 1321 (Calculus 1) must declare a major other than Pre-Engineering until they are eligible to register for this course.
To demonstrate eligibility to enroll in MTH 1321 (Calculus 1), students must meet one of the following requirements set by the Department of Mathematics:
- SAT Math of 650+
- ACT Math of 27+
- AP Precalculus score of 4 or 5
- B- or better in MTH 1320 (Pre-calculus) equivalent
- Score of 80+ on the ALEKS Math Placement Exam (this exam is available in students' goBaylor account after they deposit)
Pre-Engineering Progression Requirements
To move into one of the degree-granting majors (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering or Engineering), Pre-Engineering students must successfully complete the progression requirements below:
- Complete EGR 1301 (Introduction to Engineering) and EGR 1302 (Engineering Analysis) with a grade of "B" or better
- Complete first-year mathematics courses (including at least one of the following courses: MTH 1321, MTH 1322, MTH 2311, or MTH 2321) with a grade of "C" or better
Students who fail to meet these progression requirements will not be eligible to continue as a Pre-Engineering major. They will be transitioned to the "BA Undecided" major and encouraged to explore other major options at the University that may better fit their God-given strengths.
